Sustainability

LET’S DO BETTER. the KARE Sustainability Initiative.

Just as the passion for interior design and home decor is part of our heritage so is the sense of responsibility for social, cultural, ecological, and economic sustainability.
While our goal is ambitious, we are making steps every day to improve in each area. Therefore we have launched the initiative „Let‘s do better“. With it, we are striving to make sustainable action a reality in all areas of the company.

Everything starts with the design idea

Every step counts when it comes to sustainability, and we already took the first step in the 1990s. Instead of mass production, we focus on small furniture series, which we produce in workshops and manufactories from high quality materials. We know our suppliers personally and inspect each production location throughout Europe and Asia several times a year. Humane and fair working conditions are a must if we are to choose a business partner.

Thinking big

Doing it better than others – with this idea, the company KARE started in 1981. Our mission is to provide every home with furniture of lasting value, to make every home a happy place. The term „home“ is associated with much more than just your own four walls. The environment and nature, the people with whom we live and work with, and our social environment are part of it. Our mission does not end at the doorstep of our customers‘ doors or in front of our premises.

Preserving values, conserving resources

Each manufacturer must provide us with information on the origin of the wood and other natural materials as well as submit current, recognized certificates for legal and ecologically compatible procurement. KARE wood products originate exclusively from legal forestry. This control process creates trust and makes a valuable contribution to the future of us all.

„We do not create disposable products.
Our mission is creating furniture favorites that have what it takes for lifetime friendships.“

Peter Schönhofen

Wood with origin

Each manufacturer must provide us with information on the origin of the wood and other natural materials as well as submit current, recognized certificates for legal and ecologically compatible procurement. KARE wood products originate exclusively from legal forestry. This control process creates trust and makes a valuable contribution to the future of us all.

Leather for life

A beautiful real leather sofa is an investment for a lifetime – with good maintenance, it is resilient and it becomes increasingly beautiful over the years. Real leather is naturally resistant to abrasion, resistant and tear resistant. Especially in comparison to cheap leather alternatives, high-quality leather is more environmentally friendly when it comes to production.

Natural to the touch

Our home textiles have a good feel to them. They are crafted from natural materials such as cotton, linen, or ne-ar-natural resources such as viscose, which is based on plant fibers. Our internal quality management controls the certificates of origin and manages the usage of certified labels such as FSC and OEKO-Tex 100.

“With the support of workshops and manufactories, we save rare handicrafts from extinction.
And we give local family businesses a future and thus strengthen the social community there.”
Jürgen Reiter

Quality put to the test

KARE stands for creative that is full of passion. And yet it is bureaucracy, that ensures the careful handling of nature and its fascinating materials. Our Quality Management department inspects every product in accordance with the strict European regulations. In this way, our team ensures that with the procurement of wood we contribute to the preservation of nature. Even paints, varnishes and e.g. coatings are strictly regulated.

A good feeling of living

Natural materials such as real wood, marble, cotton, wool and linen are becoming more and more compo-nents in our collections. Because with their colors, their haptics and their stories, they convey a wonderful living feeling, do not pollute our environment, and when recycled, they can be reused in the material cycle again.

Sustainable thinking

On a sideboard made of recycled wood, for example, carpenters often work many days. Furniture is not only made up of natural materials, such as wood, worthy of protection, but often also the knowledge of centuries-old craftman-ship traditions. That is why we create furniture, that will accompany our customers as loyal friends for a lifetime. Because in this way, too, we all make a contribution to sustainable action.

Here‘s to a long friendship

KARE stands for boundless inspiration! That is why we offer furniture, lighting and decoration for every taste and style. After all, living should be fun. However, furniture is not a disposable item in our eyes. KARE CEO Peter Schönhofen: „They are part of our home, indeed perhaps even part of the family, and they repre-sent a value. We want to preserve that.“

As clear as glass

Did you know that the glass in our coffee tables and side tables is fully recycled? This resource-saving production recycles former wine bottles, for example. The glass is heated to a high temperature and melted into a solid slab, just like in the historical art of glass-making. Your new table has unique structures and looks almost like an ice floe. You are therefore acquiring a master-piece that has already had a previous life.

With natural quality

Our home textiles have a good feel. They are increasingly made from natural materials such as cotton, line or natural raw materials such as viscose, which is based on plant fibres. Our internal quality management monitors the proof of origin documentation and manages the use of certified labels such as FSC and OEKO-Tex 100.

Fantastic Plastic

Our design team is constantly on the lookout for innovative ways to make furniture even more sustainable without sacrificing quality. Upholstery fabrics made from recycled waste, like in this case PET bottles, feel surprisingly soft and cuddly, so you´re doing something good for the environment and for yourself. Give it a try!

We think before we print

At KARE we scrutinise every print product and examine its necessity very carefully. The magazine you are holding in your hands is very special: it is published once a year and printed environmentally friendly, FSC-certified paper. So you can enjoy it with a clear conscience. You can also be sure that only selected recipients will receive the magazine, it will not be distributed as junk mail and is thus a lasting work of inspiration in a small edition that deserves a place on your bookshelf and should give you pleasure for a long time.

The KARE brand symbolizes furnishing ideas which are unique, non-conformist and authentic. Ever since 1981 the company has been surprising its fans worldwide with an incomparable and inexhaustible variety of new furniture, lighting and furnishing accessories, all expressing an intense passion for design.
