SHANTI – A MYSTICAL STORY FROM INDIA

16. February 2016

We love furniture that tells a story – furniture such as the unique Indian ‘Shanti’ collection, which carries us away on a journey through the history of India with its traditional carvings on the fronts. In the old days people in India built their houses from wood and had them decorated with wood carving work which was full of imagination and symbols. An opulently decorated house was also a sign of prosperity.

Today, houses in India are built of stone. The historic wooden houses are increasingly disappearing, but our production partner in India gathers the various traditional motives and preserves the valuable woodcarvings. Directly on the spot, our design team developed the idea of creating front panels for furniture by composing the wooden pieces like a puzzle. We have deliberately worked with the rough, original forms, so the history of craftsmanship is genuinely carried into today. The wooden ornaments for trunk, coffee table, sideboard and cabinet come from different parts of India. They used to be partsof old houses and temples of small villages like Surat, Bhavnagar, Mehsana, Kapadganj & parts of southern India & Maharastra.

It’s those details that bring our furniture to life. With some imagination, the dresser tells fairy tales that deal with hidden treasures, prophecies and a romanticism that is displayed in all its glory.

UNIQUE NATURAL MATERIAL

The SHANTI series is made of solid mango wood. It is a sign of high quality from natural materials that they live even after they are processed further and can react to heat, humidity or strong sunlight. These traces of a former life are part of an authentic piece of furniture.

COMBINATION TIP

Shanti can perfectly be combined with this magical character from the colorful India. The modern interpretation of this decorative masterpiece shines in a classy chrome look. It represents one of the most popular divine forms in Hinduism: Ganesha. The elephant figure sets the tone – no matter what culture.
